Formed in Dhaka in 1999, Artcell emerged from Bangladesh’s underground rock scene with a sound shaped by heavy metal, progressive music and deeply introspective songwriting. In their early days, the four friends jammed and covered bands such as Metallica, Sepultura and Pantera before discovering Dream Theater and becoming fascinated by its progressive, intricate approach. The meeting of these influences helped shape the distinctive sound Artcell would develop over the years.
Their debut album, Onno Shomoy (2002), followed by the landmark Oniket Prantor (2006), helped define a generation of Bangladeshi rock and built a fiercely loyal following known as the Artcell Army. After a 17-year wait, the band returned with Otritio in 2023, opening a new chapter of renewed activity and international touring. More than two decades on, Artcell continues to evolve while remaining rooted in the sound, spirit and artistic identity forged in 1999.
